Matteo Ciampica - Time’s Voices
Listening to the Invisible
In an era that rushes breathlessly forward and archives every moment before it even happens, we need to stop, listen, and recognize the submerged voices that dwell in the time of experience. From this radical necessity comes ‘Voices of Time’, a new artistic, human, and philosophical Interaction, conceived in the spirit of Matteo Ciampica’s poetics. It is a collective invitation to reflect, to share, and to question our experience of time through multiple languages, diverse sensibilities, and a plurality of perspectives. In a world where time is often reduced to a stopwatch, a timetable, productivity and oblivion, Voices of Time stands as a counter-current gesture, a poetic act of resistance, a space that elevates the instant to a cosmic dimension.
The initiative has given rise to a growing choral collection of reflections on time, authored by voices differing in age, culture, language, expertise, and tone. Among them are philosophers, astronomers, poets, teenagers, citizens, teachers, workers, students, melancholic souls, and surreal creatures. Each text is a precious fragment that contributes to the construction of a complex and living mosaic of time , —not as an objective entity, but as experience, symbol, possibility, abyss. There is the reflection of a literature teacher who explores time as historical, narrative, and inner time. There is the voice of a young scientist contemplating time as a cosmic and vertiginous dimension linked to the birth of the universe. There is the irony of those who mock the time chasing us, and the melancholy of those who watch it pass by with regret. This is not a literary exercise, but an existential act. All these voices return to time the plurality of its forms, without offering a final resolution. Each written thought invites the next. Each reflection, each language, each tone—from the tragic to the comic, from the philosophical to the everyday, from the intimate to the absurd—opens a window onto an inner world, a unique way of inhabiting the time that surrounds and constitutes us.
The voice that reflects on time is never neutral, but always embodied. It is a voice with a body, a history, a pain or a hope. And it is precisely in this multiple embodiment that the project finds its deepest breath. Infinite voices speak the common language of becoming, while simultaneously expressing themselves in a thousand different idioms, each carrying a unique vision, culture, and way of feeling. The reader thus finds themselves traveling through alphabets, images, and diverse sensitivities, rediscovering in otherness an echo of their own experience.
In a society that fragments time into consumable moments and monetizes it as if it were oil, this Interaction presents itself as an act of symbolic and spiritual refoundation—a vault for lived time, a trace of the invisible. Not only the time of opportunity and value, but also the personal time of every moment deemed worthy of being told. Voices of Time is a call for awareness, an invitation to presence, to slowness, to rediscovering oneself in the experiences of others. It is a call to gather as conscious witnesses, a possibility for collective healing. Art becomes the space where time expands, transforms us, and makes us better.
The role of the viewer regains its centrality. They are author, guardian, and witness. The reader is invited to reflect, to write in turn, to share their own voice. The relationship is open, never final. The reader becomes a temporal witness , —not only of what is written but of what happens while reading. In that moment, time ceases to be neutral: it becomes relationship, emotion, memory, and future. All the voices, despite their differences, recognize each other. They seek one another. They complete one another. As if each were an echo of the other, and all together built a shared consciousness of time.
Matteo Ciampica stated: ‘[...] In this special relationship with my audience, I always find new sources of inspiration. It is the first place I turn to when I am confused. And my soul finds peace. It’s a chaotic place, it’s true. But its confusion is structured; there is a guiding thread that elevates the whole beyond its parts [...] This space teaches us, without explicit instruction, that time is not one, but many. That we do not all live it the same way. That we can listen to it, not just measure it [...] I believe this is also an attempt to return poetic complexity to time—a gesture against simplification, against haste, against the culture of ‘time is money’. In these pages, the slogan becomes ‘Time is life’, ‘Time is care’, ‘Time is listening’, ‘Time is dream’, ‘Time is voice’ [...] Time does not belong to us—it passes through us. Listening to its voices—even the quietest, most absurd, melancholic or ridiculous ones—may be the deepest way to recognize our presence in the world. Time does not pass. We pass through it, leaving shadows, footprints, questions. And sometimes, poetry.’
Poetry. The oldest way to reconcile with our own finitude, and at the same time, to open ourselves to the infinite.
